HistoryEdit

Established by the French constitution of October 27, 1946 (Fourth Republic). This Union of Former States and Territories was created to protect the welfare of former colonies and the establishment of international relations. The first independent nation to enter into the French Union was the Nguyen Kingdom.

The French Union included France, former French overseas départements, territories, settlements, United Nations trusteeships (Cameroun, etc.), former French colonies (which became overseas départements of France) and associate states (protectorates) which became independent.
